Imagine waking up on your wedding morning. You feel refreshed and see the sun is shining bright. It’s going to be a wonderful day! Today is the day you get to marry your sweetheart. And there is a lot to do from the time you wake up until the time you get to say “I do”. And you want the wedding morning to be easy, calm, and relaxing. You don’t want to feel rushed or stressed out.
If that sounds like you, you are in good company. Many brides think about their wedding morning and how they can make it as chill and stress-free as possible. And I’m happy to tell you that it is totally possible. It just takes a little thought and advance preparation to make it happen. So, today I’m going to share my top 11 tips for having a calm and relaxing wedding morning. That way you know exactly what to think about and what you can do to prepare. And you can have the magical wedding morning you were just imagining.
Tip #1: Prepare Your Wedding Day Attire & Accessories
Set out your wedding gown and accessories the night before your wedding day. Hang up your wedding gown in a picturesque location like the window or on a mirror. And set out your undergarments, accessories, clutch purse, and garter nearby. Be sure to take everything out of the packaging and remove any tags, labels, and stickers. And if you do plan to carry a clutch purse on the wedding day, pack the purse with your wedding day essentials. If your bridesmaids are there with you, you can do the same thing with their dresses and accessories. The goal here is for everything to be ready to put on once your hair and makeup are complete. And an extra bonus for having everything laid out is that your wedding photographer can capture some footage of your gown and accessories before you put them on. Many brides love the photographer to capture these kinds of detail shots on the wedding day.
Tip #2: Be Prepared for Hair and Makeup
A few days before the wedding, reach out to your stylist to confirm how your hair and skin should be prepared on the wedding morning. Some stylists prefer you to wash your hair the day before the wedding, instead of on the day of. And while you have them on the phone, be sure to also confirm the wedding day beauty schedule. Then share that schedule with your bridesmaids so everyone is on the same page on the wedding morning.
Tip #3: Allow Plenty of Time to Get Ready
When you are creating your pre-ceremony timeline, be sure to build in pockets of extra time if you can. Unexpected things always come up on the wedding day. But if you have extra time built into your timeline, those unexpected things won’t throw off your schedule. Aim to be dressed and ready to go about one hour before your wedding ceremony. That way, you have extra time in case hair and makeup take longer than expected. And extra time to enjoy with your family and bridal party before it’s time to line up for the ceremony. (If you need some help putting together your wedding day timeline, check out How to Create A Wedding Day Timeline).
Tip #4: Don’t Leave Any Planning Tasks for The Wedding Morning
For the calmest and most relaxing wedding morning possible, don’t leave any planning tasks for the wedding day. This includes tasks likes confirming arrival and delivery times with your vendors, communicating the wedding day schedule with the bridal party, and completing any DIY centerpieces or flower arrangements. For a complete list of planning tasks to complete the week of your wedding, check out What You Should Do The Week Before Your Wedding. And if you can’t complete the setup of your wedding ceremony and reception sites in advance, then make sure to do this first thing the morning of the wedding, so you can relax and enjoy the rest of the day.
Tip #5: Incorporate Calming Scents
Get a candle or room diffuser in your favorite calming scent. As you are getting ready, the lovely aroma will fill the room. And after the wedding day, every time you smell that scent, it will take you back to the memories of your wedding day.
Tip #6: Incorporate Music
Prepare a playlist of your favorite songs to listen to when you are getting ready. A playlist of sweet and romantic songs that remind you of your sweetheart is a great way to get your heart in the right place to say those vows.
Tip #7: Get Something Cute To Get Ready In
Get yourself some of those cute bridal pajamas or a while silk robe for getting ready in. It will make the day a little more special for you, and you won’t need to worry about having your photo taken in your usual scruffy pajamas.
Tip #8: Get A Good Night’s Sleep
You are going to feel much better on the wedding morning if you get a good amount of sleep the night before. So try to get to bed a little earlier than normal so you can wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go on the wedding morning. If the excitement of the big day ahead has your nerves running high and you’re having a hard time falling asleep, here are a few things you can try. First, take a long, relaxing soak in the tub to help get you nice and relaxed. Next, make sure your room is dark and quiet, and lie down in bed. Then put on a playlist of calming music to help you drift off into a peaceful night’s sleep.
Tip #9: Pamper Yourself
Make room in your schedule for some pampering! Start your day off with a warm bath and add some scented oil or flower petals to make it extra special and relaxing. You can make it even more relaxing by lighting some candles and playing some relaxing music. This will help get your mind ready for the day ahead of you. And after the bath, put on some luxurious body moisturizer and let it soak into your skin.
Tip #10: Be Sure To Eat Breakfast
Many brides feel too anxious or excited to eat breakfast on the wedding morning. However, you must eat something. It is typically a long time from when you wake up to when you get to eat your wedding dinner. Try to eat something light and healthy, like fruit, yogurt, and granola. Avoid food that is greasy or fatty because that can make you feel queasy and bloated, which you don’t for your wedding day. If you are spending your wedding morning in a hotel, arrange for them to bring you some breakfast the night before.
Tip #11: Get The Party Started
Pop some bubbly and have a toast with your bridal party. But not too much! You have a long day ahead of you, and you want to be your best and feel your best on your wedding day.
